How to convert your garage

When did you last put your car in your garage? For many British homeowners, the answer is never. The garage is more likely to be home to a washing machine or freezer, a storage space for bikes and DIY equipment, or simply a dumping ground for assorted clutter.

Often this isn’t by choice: the standard UK garage door is still the same 7ft wide that it was 50 years ago, while family cars have bulked up significantly. The result, according to a survey by the Door & Hardware Federation, is that 75% of garages in new-build homes simply won’t fit most modern cars inside.
